The southern most beach is PLAYA TORTUGA at the mouth of the Rio Terraba. You can wander out on the tide flats and river entrance at low tide and marvel at the powerful changes taking place at the River delta.
The local municipality is in the process of declaring three beaches to have free access and the others to have paid access. When you arrive here we will be happy to guide to the beach of your choice with current guidelines.
These beaches do not have life guards (something to be on guard for in all of Costa Rica) and there are rip tides. It is important to receive instructions in appropriate beach protocol and how to keep safe. Please inquire before swimming for your safety.
