SPORT FISHING COSTA RICA
COSTA RICAN OUTFITS OUT OF SIERPE
There are several companies to choose from out of Sierpe. Leaving
THE MANGO TREE SPA you will drive to Sierpe, a charming fishing village right in the middle of the Osa Penninsula. With one of these outfits, you will find yourself first experiencing your trip to the ocean through the eco-rich mangroves. You might see three-toed sloth, anteater, crocodile, iguanas, caimans, snakes, scarlet macaws, toucans, woodpecker, trogons, herons and so on. Once you cross the bar to the ocean you will find yourself in the richest game sport fishing area in Costa Rica. This is due to the two large rivers that dump their fertile waters into the ocean along this coast, the Terraba and the Sierpe. The irregular ocean floor lends itself to a variety of species that gravitate to this area. You can even tell your captain which fish you would like to catch that day, sail fish, yellow fin tuna , sea bass, red snapper, or mahi mahi.
If you are lucky enough to catch yellow fin tuna, be prepared for sushi with wasabi on your return to shore. They keep it on board. You will be blown away by the taste and freshness. While out there, be sure to jump into the very blue ocean 50 miles off shore and take a dip. This is an experience you will always remember.
You can always elect for a quicker trip from Ballena Marina National Park, a trip that takes you straight out to sea. I think the Sierpe departure gives you more for your money. The boats out of Sierpe are covered, very safe, with excellent guides and accommodate 4-5 persons. Boats out of Marina may hold up to 6 persons and you can elect half or whole days. Marina boats may go out 25 miles off shore, while Sierpe boats may go up to 50 miles off-shore.
Mango will arrange your trip for you and provide a lunch to take with you.
