BORUCA INDIAN RESERVATION
This southern zone of Costa Rica is known for its indigenous nature. The Boruca Indians have a very artistic presence in Costa Rica with their wonderful masks and weavings.
These Indians live high in the rolling hills accessible by four wheel drive and determination. The drive is spectacular and trip into a real piece of native history.
These Borucas are known for their handicrafts, especially their balsa wood masks. These masks represent the devil and were originally constructed to scare off the Spanish conquistadores. There is an annual festival around New Years to re-enact this war between the Indians and the conquistadors ……..in which the Indians always win.
